Analogue TV Everywhere we look it seems that we are the end of the era of analogue TV. But even when the last analogue broadcast services are switched off, many of the parameters and concepts central to current digital standards are derived from the analogue principles and practices described in this section. In addition, many of our digital products will need to be interfaced with legacy analogue systems for some time to come – even if it's as prosaic as a digital set-top box having to provide a PAL or NTSC composite signal in order to work with an old TV receiver. CategoriesFilesIn the mid-twentieth century a number of ingenious and sophisticated systems were devised to "bolt-on" colour services to the exisiting monochrome TV broadcast infrastructure. This section contains a introduction to the concept behind such "composite" colour-coding systems, the main features of the individual systems (NTSC, PAL and SECAM), as well as an overview of worldwide distribution of these systems. This section includes information on some of the more obscure and poorly-documented issues surrounding analogue video principles and practice, including line numbering (not as straightforward as it sounds), the Vertical Blanking Interval ("VBI) and an essential signal-processing technique – video clamping. DocumentsDate addedPresenting an overview of the frequency-domain (spectral) structure of an analogue video signal. Also including the fine ("comb") structure and the frequency-domain interleaving employed in composite colour encoding systems such PAL and NTSC.
